Your family portraits are an investment. They are a piece of art that lets you freeze time and hold onto a fleeting moment for years to come. Why not let them shine throughout your home? As a full-service photographer, I adore working with parents to help them find the perfect ways to show off their family pictures. If you could use some pointers on where to display portraits in your home, I would love to give you a quick list of ideas for Charleston SC home decor

Framed newborn photos hang on a wall in a living room

Main Spaces

Main spaces such as living rooms are always ideal spots to hang your portraits. There’s a good chance most of your family’s life is spent in this area. It’s also one of the most common spaces where your Charleston SC guests gather to take a peek into your life through home decor. A popular option for my clients is to hang large, dramatic prints on the wall behind the couch as a focal point for the room. You can also choose to create a gallery wall in an area where there is a lot of empty space. Just make sure you hang them at a good height so people aren’t straining to see your gorgeous family!

Private Spaces

Private spaces in Charleston SC such as bedrooms are another common area for portraits as home decor. The wall behind your headboard is a fantastic space for large couples’ portraits, while accent walls are great for full-family shots. More intimate pictures, such as maternity or boudoir portraits, are a good option for master bathrooms. And I can guarantee your nursery will be elevated by your newborn’s portraits.

Transitional Spaces

Typically, in Charleston SC homes, transitional spaces such as hallways and entryways have a lot of extra wall space just begging for home decor. Because your entryway sets the tone for the rest of your house, this is the ideal space to hang more posed, large family portraits. Meanwhile, the hallway is a perfect spot for a sprawling gallery wall. You can choose to hang the same-sized frames in nice rows, or you can mix it up with different sizes and complementary frames.

Multipurpose Spaces

Chances are, you have that bonus room where a lot of life happens. Maybe it’s your child’s playroom or a game room. It could be an office or a laundry room. Because these rooms are often catch-all areas, they can lack decorations. Framed portraits will be a wonderful option for elevating the space and making it feel a little more put-together. You can also add a small, framed portrait to the end of bookshelves for an accent. I always suggest that you use these areas for the portraits that bring you the most joy, such as your child flashing their cheesiest grin.
